Our Story: Why SuppLiCan Care Exists
SuppLiCan Care and Support was founded on a simple belief: everyone deserves to live with dignity, independence, and comfort in the place they call home. Our founder, Miss Muusha (Tina), started SuppLiCan because she wanted care that treats every person as an individual, not as a service user.
Having seen both excellent and inadequate care in the industry, we knew there was a better way. We wanted carers who have time to build real relationships, who respect the choices people make, and who never compromise on dignity. That is the company we set out to build, and it is the company we run today.
We serve clients across Dorset. We are not a large corporate provider. We are a local, community focused team who care about the people we support and about the carers who support them.
Our name, "SuppLiCan," reflects our philosophy: we supply the care that you can rely on. More than that, we support you to live the life you want, because you can remain independent at home with the right support.
Seeing the person, not the diagnosis
Dementia sits at the heart of why we do this work. When someone receives a diagnosis, too much of the world starts speaking about them in the past tense. We do not.
The person in front of us was a teacher, a shipwright, a mother, a keen gardener, someone who danced badly at weddings and made the best roast in the family. They still are. Dementia changes how a person holds on to a memory. It does not change who they have been, and it does not change what they are owed.
So we take the time to learn a life before we learn a care plan. We ask families what someone loved and what they could never stand, what music settles them, what routine anchors the day. We record likes and dislikes, not just preferences, because knowing that someone hates tea but will never say so is the difference between a good visit and a difficult one.
Our carers receive specialist dementia training and revisit it regularly. They learn to work with confusion rather than correct it, to notice distress before it escalates, and to keep a person safe without stripping away their independence.
We meet people where they are, and we hold on to who they have always been.
Our Core Values: What Drives Everything We Do
Our values aren't just words on a wall, they guide every decision we make, every carer we employ, and every interaction with the people we support.
Compassion
We care deeply about the people we support. Compassion means treating everyone with kindness, empathy, and genuine concern for their wellbeing.
"When a client was anxious about hospital discharge, our carer not only provided care but visited them in hospital beforehand to provide reassurance and build rapport before they came home."
Dignity & Respect
Every person has inherent worth and deserves to be treated with dignity. Respect means honouring choices, maintaining privacy, and never patronising.
"If someone prefers to dress a certain way even if it takes longer, we respect that choice and take the time needed, their autonomy matters more than efficiency."
Independence
We believe in enabling independence, not creating dependency. Our goal is supporting people to do as much as they can themselves.
"Rather than dressing someone completely, we support them to dress themselves as much as possible, only helping with tasks they genuinely can't manage independently."
Excellence
We're committed to the highest standards in everything we do, from carer training to care delivery to communication with families.
"We don't just meet minimum training requirements, we provide extensive ongoing training ensuring our carers have the knowledge and skills to provide excellent care."
Reliability
You can depend on us. We arrive when we say we will, do what we promise, and communicate clearly. Consistency is fundamental.
"We provide the same carers wherever possible so you build trusted relationships, and if circumstances change, we communicate proactively."
Community
We're part of the Dorset community, supporting our neighbours. We build relationships and contribute positively to our area.
"Our carers are from your local community, they understand the area, share your values, and genuinely care about their neighbours."
Why Choose SuppLiCan Care and Support?
Many home care providers operate in Dorset. Here's what makes SuppLiCan Care different and why families choose us.
Local & Family Run
We're not a large corporate chain with distant head offices. We're a local, family run business serving our own community.
Real Impact: when you call, you speak to people who know Dorset, understand local services, and often know the areas and even the streets where you live.
Led by People Who Know You
Our management team is involved in daily operations rather than being names on paperwork. We know our clients, we know our carers, and we are present.
Real Impact: we oversee care quality ourselves, we meet every new client, and we make sure our values are lived daily rather than printed in a brochure.
Consistent, Local Carers
We employ carers from your local community and provide the same carers consistently rather than rotating different people through your home.
Real Impact: You'll get to know your carers. They become trusted friends who understand your routines, preferences, and personality, not strangers doing tasks.
Genuinely Person Centred
Person centred care is more than a buzzword to us. Every care plan is truly tailored to individual needs, preferences, routines, and goals.
Real Impact: If you like your morning tea a specific way, prefer certain activities, or have particular routines, we follow YOUR preferences, care adapts to you, not the other way around.
Time for Care
We don't rush carers between appointments. We schedule realistic visit times so carers are never hurried, because rushed care is unsafe care.
Real Impact: Our carers aren't watching the clock constantly. They have time to chat, listen, and provide care with patience and dignity.
CQC Registered & Regulated
We're officially registered with the Care Quality Commission, meeting rigorous standards for quality, safety, and care provision.
Real Impact: You can verify our registration, read inspection reports, and have confidence we meet official care standards, not just our own claims.
